archive.org is a wonderful resource. Most of the historic navigation texts discussed on this List are available there for free download, as well as many more. I spend many an evening browsing on it. Just type "Navigation" in the subject line and be sure you have clicked on "Texts". Enjoy.

    Regards,

    Henry

George's comment about the availability of low-price copies of "The Marine Chronometer" by Rupert Gould as on-demand reprints got me thinking... They're getting their originals from somewhere, right? And sure enough, it's available at archive.org in various formats. I'm also linking a copy here (the B/W pdf version, 22 MB). Since the google bots will soon come along and digest its contents, OCR-ing as they go, that should help bring more people to NavList interested in chronometer history and navigation history.
