[Yes, I accidentally sent a blank reply/quote earlier, sorry.] Banging around in the bablefish, I find another alternate indicating either: trade ship (shiff) or perhaps what we would call "ship trade". I'm not sure if that would correctly translate as "trade ships" meaning, commercial shipping, which in turn is "mercant marine" or translate as "ship trade" in the sense of "having a trade", as in a line of manual skill/business, i.e. "He's in the shipping trade". It is often intriguing to try to understand not just a simple translation, but the cultural mindset and values indicated by it.
