I'd be interested. Thanks for posting this.

On a semi-related note, I've given up on the idea of using molasses. Not because of poor results. On the contrary, my sights were pretty good. I just don't like dealing with such a sticky/messy substance. Especially so when it's anywhere near my sextant! :o

I guess that precludes used motor oil as well. Hmm... I did craft a small device from a paperclip which I designed to hold the glass of my Davis AH open just slightly in hopes of mitigating the condensation. It didn't work too well, either. If I put it at the top, not enough air got in to evaporate the droplets. If I put it at the bottom, too much air got in and the surface was disturbed.

Looks like a mirror is the way to go. In 2011, Robert Eno suggested* we AH enthusiasts just spring for a Freiberger AH. It is one sexy piece of work. I think I'll have to save up for one. In the meantime, I read with great interest all of the posts about homemade artificial horizons. Given my income, I should have plenty of time to work on my own before the Freiberger arrives. ;)

    Regards,
    Sean C.
