Actually, QM is "quartermaster". They're the navigators on USN ships. It's a non-commissioned officer rank. And I believe ET is "electronics technician".

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, it's interesting to note that there were big delays developing SINS back in the late 1950s so the Navy scavenged an excellent inertial system from a canceled and terribly over-budget supersonic cruise missile: the "Never Fly Navaho". This system was installed on both USS Nautilus and USS Skate. After Nautilus crossed the Arctic in four days, a celestial fix showed that the INS was only off by a few miles. And that was a first-generation INS.
