Maybe not everybody ;-) When I started my bucket-list cel nav journey years ago with HO 229 the thought of using sunrise/sunset crossed my mind. After figuring out how to use the tables for a negative HC, I queried the discussion group. I was dissuaded from doing that, not because of extinction, but rather the flukey nature of refraction. It strikes me that if that was one of my first lessons, an experienced navigator would shy away from rise/set observations unless it was a court of last resort. Using that to locate a small island defies common sense IMHO. Back to the dumbest person in the room. I've followed the discussion with great interest. There appears to be another huge gap in my education. Would someone please expound on the "tested method of running down a Sun line" to reach a destination? Thanks Bill B
