    I suppose this is due to sextant non-rigidity.
    Revently I found this addressed in Hezzanith
    manual.

    It could be a problem with your eyes,
    but not the problem you describe.
    That an eye is "distorting spheres" is irrelevant.
    
    It is relevant whether the eye sees when exactly two
    objects touch.
    But it could be that it is relevant for the eye
    whether the touching line is vertical or horizontal
    at the touching point.
    
    Did you try to incline your head 90 degrees to one side?
    If your eye is responsible for the phenomenon,
    the phenomenon should disappear then:-)
