As to reducing the sights, I used the 2013 Nautivcal Almanac Daily Pages, and the LOC method, in conjunction with my old HP 11C calculator. Plotting was done manually, on an enlargement of the USPS CLS Plotting Sheet. The sheet was enlarged 200%, making it easier for old eyes like mine. Results were as follows. The values listed are in the following order: LHA, Ho, Hc, Zn, a distance either T or A. I will start with sextant data for 13 January.

Jupiter: 320D 38.5M, 50D 34.6M, 50D 14.6M, 69D, 20 NM Toward
Rigel: 307D 50.5M, 35D 25.3M, 35D 19.2M, 98D, 6.1 NM Toward
Fomalhaut: 46D 16.4M, 31D 09.9M 31D 13.3M, 240D, 3.7 NM Away
Capella: 308D 00.3M 32D 17.0M 32D 12.7M, 44D, 4.3 NM Toward
Moon, LL: 77D 20.7M 14D 14.5M 14D 20.8M, 259D, 6.3 NM Away

I eliminated the LOP's of Jupiter, it was way out to the West, and Capella, as it looked close to parallel with the LOP of Fomalhaut. My calculated fix, using Moon LL, Fomalhaut and Rigel was 08D 53.5M North x 109D 55M East.

Next comes 16 January, values in same order as above:

Achemar: 02D 16.6M, 12D 08.4M, 12D 09.5M, 206D, 1.1 NM Away
Rigel: 308D 37.2M, 31D 53.8M, 31D 51.8M, 99D, 2.0 NM Toward
Fomalhaut: 43D 37.0M, 24D 32.7M, 24D 33.6M, 238D, 0.9 NM Away
Capella: 307D 30.5M, 40D 30.7M, 40D 29.7M, 40D, 1.0 NM Toward
Aldebran: 317D 56.7M, 50D 04.1M, 50D 02.0M, 73D, 2.1 NM Toward

I eliminated the LOP's of Achamer and Fomalhaut, they were essentially parallel. My calculated fix, using Rigel, Aldebran and Capella was as follows: 20D 38.8M North x 120D 47M East. The triangle obtained with the LOP's uses was extremely small.
