    Gary,

    The BBC on "analogue" radio (audio or frequency modulation) is unreliable too for its time pips.

    The transmitters receive feeds from telephone lines and there is unknown variable delay involved there too as they are packet multiplexed systems from node to node. They are supposed to be within a few milliseconds - but I wouldn't trust them if I really needed accuracy.

    The dissemination of time standards is a difficult and prickly subject. I still think the only simple way is to receive the signals from pukka time standard stations like WWV and RUM an a shortwave receiver - or for ultimately accurate availability use a proper GPS time standards receiver designed for the purpose.
