    I've heard it both ways, Robert. Of course, you might be looking for Canadian 
    usage. Down here in the states we still speak "The King's English" (George 
    etc.) but over in England they call it "The Queen's English" (ER-II)when they 
    speak.
    
    I think "common proper" English requires the use of the article, but naval and 
    marine tradition does not use it since a ship is a "person". You'd refer to 
    Admiral Nelson, the Admiral, but never "The Admiral Nelson" when you were 
    talking about that person. I suppose how a ship is called tells you something
