    Hi Hewitt

I somewhat doubt that our navigator used a Danish almanac.  The reason will become more evident below.

I think that the navigator used the exact copy of Bowditch that the scrap of paper was found in for some of his ephemeris data. Most likely for the equation of time. The EoT table from that precise copy is relevant to the transcription.

Did he use the long term almanac in Bowditch, as Orjan points out?  Without correlation, thats harder to say.  Again, we would want that long term almanac of the sun from that precise copy of Bowditch to verify.  Not a similar version or one a few years earlier or later.  The very tome that must be on Frank's bookshelf.

I would still like the publish date (and revision) of that particular copy of Bowditch that the scrap of paper was found in.  It establishes an 'earliest date' for our navigator.

It would be very unlikely that he saved a piece of scrap paper (worksheet) from an earlier trip, only to slip it into his new copy of Bowditch.  FAR more likely is that our navigator had his copy of Bowditch and kept his scratch pad worksheet in the reference (ephemeris) he used!   If he wasn't getting his inputs to his equations from that copy of Bowditch, then he's wasting a lot of time opening and closing a book he's not using.

I do hope that Frank kept that copy of Bowditch, along with the scrap paper.  The simple requests are publication date, revision number, EoT table scan and maybe the long term almanac of the sun.

    Regards
    Brad
