Box 1126 Rockville, Maryland 20850 301-622-6448 301-622-6448 fax URL: http://pw1.netcom.com/~navigate/celestial/nav.html The Foundation for the Promotion of the Art of Navigation (The Navigation Foundation), is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation of the art of celestial navigation. The Navigation Foundation was started in 1981 by a group of experienced navigators who believe that navigation is a personal skill essential to the seaman even in this age of electronics. The Navigation Foundation strives to educate and inform its members through the publication of a quarterly newsletter featuring articles on navigational methods, history of navigation and reviews of books on the subject. A reader's forum provides opportunities for neophytes and experts to exchange ideas and recount experiences. Frequently issues will contain a lesson in the basics of navigation, designed for newcomers. In order to raise public interest and awarenes, The Navigation Foundation awards prizes for demonstrated excellence in navigation at the United States Naval Academy, the United States Coast Guard Academy and other academic institutions. It provides assistance in the development of devices and aids to the navigator. It also provides members a substantial discount on books and charts. The Navigation Foundation asks members to donate $35 each year to cover the cost of providing the services outlined. Your donation is fully deductible for income tax purposes (United States only)) and goes entirely towards the objectives of The Navigation Foundation, since the Officers serve without pay. This is a people-to-people organization without advertising or commercialization. Because The Navigation Founation is an all volunteer organization, there may be times when a query will go unanswered. If this should happen, wait a few days and repost your query. The Executive Director personnally handles all e-mail, memberships, collection of material for the quarterly newsletter and returns all telephone calls. There will be a delay in responce when he is on travel. Join this unique group of individuals and help preserve the ancient art of celestial navigation for future generations. Your $35 donation will be put toward a worthy cause.
