A bit off topic but I looked up your position in the Sailing Directions. Are you at anchor in the outer harbor outside the reef? How big is your vessel and what is your cargo? According to SD the Saipan Harbor basin "is encumbered with wrecks". How good are the charts for the Marianas?
Good navigation!
John Cole
Yes we are at anchor outside the reef. Plenty of water
and no wrecks near our anchorage, but plenty in the inner harbor (some are even
visable). The ship is about 650 ft long 105 ft wide, and 35,000 Gross
Tons. We are a 2000 TEU containership carrying military cargo (I can't
elaborate on this point alas). You can google MV MAJ BERNARD F FISHER
for a picture and some info. The charts are excellent for the main islands
as there has been a good deal of surveying going on in the last year. Once
you get to the smaller islands up north, the information is quite a bit older,
some dating to 1922 Japanese surveys. We tend not to get too close to them
however.
