Re: Navigation using satellite doppler shift

About 20 years ago I wrote a program to determine ham radio satellite
orbits from the dopplers on their signals. Rather than the actual
doppler shift, it used what I called "delta doppler": the change in
received frequency between two accurately timed points of a satellite pass.

The advantage of delta doppler is that it only requires the transmitter
and receiver frequencies to remain stable during the pass. Their
absolute frequency need not be known to high accuracy.

Having been out of that for many years, it was difficult to interpret my
old notes, but it looked like I was pretty happy with the results. The
technique may work for low accuracy "just for fun" position determination.
