This brief included where and when the pilot was to be picked up, all turning points in the channel and bearings to shore "nav aids" at each turning point, tidal info, anchorage point or pier/berth and tug services. In all but one ship, the CO stayed on the bridge, usually in his chair and monitored the Pilot, OOD and QMs. Typically, the XO and Navigator where on the bridge too. On rare occasions, the CO MIGHT retire to his at-sea cabin when returning to home port, though I only saw this once. I did have one CO [mid 80s] who preferred to sit in his chair in CIC where he could easily see a radar plot and manual chart plot "backing up" the QMs and Pilot on the bridge. I asked him about his preference for CIC and it was his contention that he could monitor "everything" including the CIC "back up" function better from CIC.
