Has anyone experimented with night time star observations during a new Moon using an estimated horizon? A vague horizon is bad enough but added to this is the difficulty of rocking the sextant to obtain perpendicularity. Even so I bet observations within 20 minutes of arc can be had. I see that this will be something to try on my next cruise to the islands.
