I have just found out about this discussion group and would like to briefly present myself. I am 55 years old and live in The Netherlands. My main interests are centered on flying: I am a licensed pilot, which means I have an active interest in navigation: dead reckoning, radio fixes and lately, of course, GPS. A few years ago, I got interested in slide rules (again I should say, as during my school and university years I was a power user of slide rules) and combining this with aviation means I got into flight computers in general and navigation computers in particular, which has now grown to be my main pastime. Having studied just about all there is to know about dead reckoning navigation, I have now turned to celestial navigation and am working through the relevant study material for this. I have purchased some of the relevant books to do my own position fixes (air almanac and some HO publications) but I have yet to purchase a sextant: with my aviation background this would have to be a bubble sextant of course. Don't expect many active contributions from me for the time being: I am in the learning mode and am eager to learn from the old hands in this discussion group.
