I speculated in an earlier message,
"The big benefit is that there are now twice as many satellites for a receiver to choose from. In a marginal location, like under trees or in an urban area, this means you're more likely to get a fast fix."
Reading through the Wikipedia article in more detail, it says:
"Some modern receivers are able to use both GLONASS and GPS satellites together, providing greatly improved coverage in urban canyons and giving a very fast time to fix due to over 50 satellites being available. In indoor, urban canyon or mountainous areas, accuracy can be greatly improved over using GPS alone. "
That makes sense.
