I don't know. I strongly suspect that height of eye would impact this phenomenon, but which way? I was thinking about the geometry for a few minutes earlier today, and I suspect it would depend on the details of the wave shapes in a complicated fashion. It also ought to depend on the Moon's altitude.
And btw, I'm just speculating on this issue. It makes good sense to me, and the physics and geometry are sound. But it still might be a bunch o' hooie.
