You would be amazed at what leaves
the ship before it hits the bone yard. I have heard tales of T-2 tankers,
which had wonderful wood-work, going to the bone yard without doors to the
staterooms and being steered with a pipewrench. I know for a fact that in
the US fleet; builders plates, clocks, Engine order telegraphs, barometers, even
name boards all usually don't fall prey to the scrappers.
This is done with the company's
permission of course.
