Byron: The indicator is difference in Piloting and Celestial.
See Navlist of 2009 Aug 4 @1847 for Piloting with Navaids
on earth at sea. In this case the on earth bearing lines to the
Navaid with error can be corrected by using the intersection
of the two shorter (closer Navaids.) and the miss of the Far Navaid.
At sea using the stars the Lines of Position of stars are
parallel therefore cannot be used in the same way, instead the close or far
position of the indicator will support or unsupport near 90 degree the fix position.
Unlike the earth Piloting, to correct gyro, the Celestial indicator just gives
    confidence in the fix.
I know that you already understand this, thank's for bring this to light
