On July 19, 1723 they swung 26 pirates on a gallows set up on the beach at Newport Rhode Island. They did four more on November 3, 1738. Piracy was virtually eliminated in North America in the first few decades of the 18th century by hanging pirates, pretty soon you run out of pirates.

Massachusetts hanged 37 between 1661 and 1728 and then, they too, ran out of pirates. Their best one day score was eight pirates swinging in the breeze on January 27, 1689.

South Carolina did twenty on November 8, 1718 and then another one in December and then they ran out of pirates.

Historical experience seems to show that the only really effective way of fighting pirates is attacking their shore bases, rather than hanging individual pirates. Examples: G.
