The Ageton method works off any assumed position including the DR position. The advantage of this is that intercepts are short so any slop or small error in azimuth will cause less of error on an EP or fix. I like very much the compact Haversine Doniol method and the Ageton Classic method which also work off the DR position. There are numerous posts in the archives on these alternate short methods and their advantages.

I opened my copy of Ageton at the preface and there, staring me in the face, was written

"1. The DR position of the ship is used for working sights and plotting lines of position".

Clearly in that respect Ageton is an improvement on Dreisonstok.

I have previously browsed the archives and have read some of the threads on the compact methods. I will add them to my must do list.
