Another option might be to consider one of the offshore navigation courses taught by the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons, a sister organization to the US Power Squadrons.
They have eleven (!) squadrons (chapters) on Vancouver Island. I'm not familiar enough with your wonderful home island to know which might be near, but here's the list (scroll down to see Vancouver Id)
If you click on "courses" on the top menu bar and then on "advanced courses" you will note that CPS offers two courses that teach celestial -- Offshore Navigation Level 1 and Offshore Navigation Level 2. Both cover all of offshore navigation, not just taking celestial sights.
