    Other NavList folk: please do not consider my reply to the original poster as the last word on this question. Give him some advice on how to resolve it. Many people new to this sort of problem have trouble figuring out the difference in longitude when you cross 180°. If you go from 179°W to 179°E, how much has your longitude changed? That sort of thing... Also, what is parallel sailing? Why do people care about it at all? How does the distance between the two points in the problem done by parallel sailing differ from the great circle distance between those same points?
