Bruce, I followed your advice on looking into "Cugle's Practical Navigation" and Chapt. XXXII on Ex-Meridian procedures. The book I found yesterday(the ONLY copy in town) in an old book store was printed in 1952.In the chapter dealing with Ex-Meridian sight procedures NO mention of the Phi-Prime,Phi-2nd procedure was included. I am interested, but not to the point of wandering all over creation to find a suitable volumn,in what the Phi-Prime,Phi-2nd procedure is. Could not someone just give me a run down of the procedure? As for what Gearge states about the rear vs front silvered mirrors I can't answer his questions or concerns out right.I only go by what I've read in various books and manuals discribing both procedures of finding perpendicularity in front anf rear silvered mirrors.Whatever the procedure states in an owner's manual reguarding how to accomplish the task is what I follow without giving it to much thought.I will state that when I had to replace my index mirror on the Tamaya due to a blemish in the rear silvering I couldn't get the mirror perp useing the arc method. The Tamaya manual(I've sent the relavant paragraphs)specifically states one must use cylinders(dominoes, choke tubes, dice)to accomplish the task.
