In practice you would keep an eye on that rate and then adjust the
recorded time before sight reduction.  If you use a form for manual
sight reduction it should have a field for this time adjustment: +/-

Thanks for this info.  Its useful to be able to forget the watch is
there and hop in the water with it.
Mainly, though, I take 'Water Resistant' to mean rain, splashes while
washing or cooking, and salt spray won't worry it.
