I do a lot of plotting while teaching with the power squadron, meaning I also check a lot of students' work. I have found the Bi-Rota ruler very fast and accurate (once you get the hang of it -- it is a bit odd at first). However, aboard (40' sailboat), one handed dividers and parallel rules do the job for me (as they seem to have done for Captain Cook).
