Re: Puzzle continues: After Capella, Vega behind your back

    Frank,
    For the first puzzle I get a 21:51 position of 55°1'N 2°30'E; for 22:11 55°0'N same longitude.

The second one gives latitude 54°55'N. The Arcturus sight seems odd however, I get a longitude of 4°11'E which obviously is wrong if it should be a continuation of the first puzzle. 101' out in longitude in one hour and twenty minutes is far too much. There seems to be a blunder. The time is probably fairly correct so then there remains an erroneous reading of the sextant. Assuming the altitude should have read 1° more, i.e. 30°7', then I get a longitude at 23:31 of 2°25'E which seems more reasonable. Another possibility is altitude 29°57' but this value gives a longitude a bit too far to the east I think, a tide component of more than five knots is just too much. Or is the blunder on my side? Calculations enclosed.
    Lars
