Bart;
The sextant you have is a B&L AN5854-1 which was adopted by the U. S. Navy in WWII
It incorporated a click dot mechanical averager and was the first bubble sextant to use Dow Corning silicone fluid in the bubble chamber.
They were issued in wooden boxes and padded bags. It is not an A-8-A sextant.
I just finished restoring one,
