George, I must admit that I don't know what this factor 1.25 should relate to. I can't see why in a normal distributed dataset the standard deviation should change only by selecting the median instead of the mean, which in such a normal distributed dataset would be the same. In the case of a small dataset with an outlier, where the median is different than the mean, sigma will obviously differ when calculating it with respect to the median. That's the only difference I'm aware of. Marcel
