    Thanks a lot for that info. I have avoided purchasing a few sextants in the past due to mirror deterioration. If I can get my head around doing the job myself it will be of some advantage. I would like to sell some of my sextants in the near future and retain/restore a few prime examples. Seventeen sextants is far too many sextants for any man, collected over many years.

    I have acquired some beautiful examples from individuals who wanted the sextant to go to a "good home" as there was some sentiment attached to the instrument, rather than see the sextant end up as a curio or plaything for the children. Usually sold to me way below value. They rarely emerge from their boxes, I have a couple of Davis sextants to satisfy my practical curiosity.
