Re: The Running Fix on an Ellipsoid

    Andres,

Oh no you ditint! (New York speak usually accompanied but flamboyant hand gestures). You “ditint” start a thread with “but this is not the nature of the CoP” along the way inject “We cannot carry on putting the cart before the horse” or ”build the house from the roof” and finally fall back on  “you are talking about an error of 0.0549% !

The thread revolves around your legitimately questioning the statement in my paper "On the sphere, points on the LoP all lie the same geodesic distance from GP; however this is not true for an ellipsoid". I don’t see it being resolved by just noting that the figure of the Earth is only slightly elliptical unless that really was your point all along. (Was it?)

Seriously though I would like to bring this to a more satisfying conclusion. Do you now agree with the point? If not I would genuinely like to understand where the differences lie and I believe that the example provided at the end of my previous post provides a way forward. Are you able to point to specific details that you disagree with?

    Regards,

    Robin
