I agree. It's an accident that these particular abbreviations only contain Cyrillic letters that look like Roman ones. One could write "Су" for Sukhoi aircraft but nobody does that when using the Roman alphabet. And then, of course, with МиГ (MiG) there is no choice, so one might as well transliterate consistently.

Re "CHO" versus the proper "SNO". Sorry, but having studied Russian, I just can't stand that barbaric usage! I'm kidding. :-) It's not really barbaric, but it sure ain't right. It's like writing CCCP for the old USSR.
