    Schools and transit of Venus
    From: Aubrey O?Callaghan

I looked at Venus this morning with my 60x(bird watching telescope) onto a
sheet of white paper. Just saw it starting and wondered if it was just some
"spot" on the lens. wached for a few minutes and sure enough... there it
    was. Excellent.

Taking my son to school this morning I decided to put the scope in the boot
of the car (trunk for USA!). I asked his teacher if anything had been
organized to see the transit. Apparently not, so I took out the telescope
and all the classes had a look. I was a little surprised that nothing had
been planned, I wonder if this was fairly universal ? Teachers were not
really sure how to look at the Sun.

Some of the things we may take for granted here, are not always obvious to
    everyone.

By the way can anybody tell me the exact date of the next transit in 12
years time ? I gather it will not be visible from UK as it will be night,
but hopefully I will be again sitting in the Caribbean then!

    Aubrey.
