Thanks to Bill's instructions (by private mail) I was able to "re- create" a usable bubble. Obviously it is still enough fluid in the system after 65 years or so. I am of course keen to learn how the sextant is disassembled (and vice versa). One day I will need that knowledge. Thank you to the Ken and Alex advising as well. The fluid used in this aircraft octant was definitely refined ethyl alchohol (the same sort of alcohol that is used as a social lubricant). As it is clearly derived from the Plath SOLD octant, the latter almost certainly used alcohol too. I will try to post instructions and pictures to describe how to remove the bubble assembly and refill it on my blog (www.sextantbook.com) sometime in the next few days. > > Bill Morris > Pukenui > New Zealand --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
