Veering off topic, but this is the way the Swiss watch industry has operated for centuries. Although the movements that were bought a couple of hundred years ago needed a lot of finishing in order to become a well regulated watch, in contrast to the fully functional movements that you can buy today from ETA. In the entire history of watchmaking there have been almost no individuals (or companies) that built watches from parts that they made themselves. George Daniels being a notable exception.

An interesting and very readable account of the history of mechanical timekeepers is "Revolution in Time" by David S. Landes.

    Ken Muldrew.

Just my personal experience that people who buy sextants find it odd, even suspicious or deceptive.

    And you added:

Huh. Thanks! I did not know that.
