Arthur- <(sea/air temps at sea level near the vessel only capture part of the picture).> True. Bear in mind that general local and seasonal sea temperatures can often be applied, without actually measuring them. I can be fairly certain the "my" local waters will range near 70 in August but hard under 40 in February, and within a +-5F range in any given month. Also, the internet allows us to cheat by looking at actual deep sea bouy data, so I can say for certain that a certain station off Maine was at 34F yesterday, while another in Maryland was at 42F, and my local Ambrose Tower apparently has been moved inland, it no longer displays any sea temperature at that location. (At least, I hope it was moved to dry land, the alternative is that sea level has dropped some hundred feet while I was sleeping.) Of course, ignoring it all and simply allowing a 5-6 minute circle of position is still the simplest way to do it, but "simple" isn't always part of CN.
