    Hello Graham

If your sextant is of high value to you (family heirloom, etc), and you are determined to repair it, simply approach any competent machine shop.  They can manufacture nearly any component, in suitable material, that will directly substitute for your damaged part(s).  I will caution you that this approach will not be inexpensive, in fact, depending on the extent of the replacement, the cost to repair could easily exceed the cost to replace the entire sextant.  I have utilized this approach for some antique equipment and have found it to be very satisfactory.

Another approach is to look for another sextant of the same model for parts salvage.  This can be a very lengthy wait that may never terminate, based upon the rarity of the model.  I am in this mode for an instrument I possess, and have resigned myself to an unsatisfactory conclusion.

    You can also try
this is a long standing firm, with an excellent reputation.  They may have your part

If all else fails, you can simply purchase another sextant on ebay.  There are nearly 2000 listings today....

I have a 1995 Sewill's Cetus Prima sextant.  Unfortunately I have damaged the locking nut for the horizon mirror adjustment screw.  I have contacted Sewill's of Liverpool, C.Plath of Hamburg (whom I am told manufactured the sextant for Sewill's) as well as a number of other companies associated with the manufacture of sextants.  Unfortunately none carry spares and none can offer any advice, I am now out of ideas as to how to replace either the locking nut or even the whole mirror assembly.  Can you assist please.
