Just for fun, here's a 6-second video clip through the sextant showing the Moon and Altair. It's part of an effort to measure where the line of collimation is in the frame; other parts of the video have the Moon nearer to the top and bottom. The still shots will be more accurate for this, though, since the video is only 1280x720. It's clear how nonoptimal Altair is as a lunar star, since the grazing point is considerably angled away from the best spot at the Sun-pointing part of the lunar limb. The star is offset by an arcminute or two from grazing to allow a clean estimate of the star's position without interference from lunar light. Frank, is there any policy about posting video? Would it be better hosted on YouTube or Vimeo rather than directly posted? Cheers, Peter
