    Steve,

    The two meter band is not good for most time signals.  WWV and WWVH brodcast on 2.5, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 MHz - about 60 meters to 30 meters. The Canadian time hack is even lower frequency of 3330 MHz.

    The first radio would be better.  I have a Grundig G3 radio - small and portable.
