The problem here is about convenience. On my sailboat, we did everything in magnetic (compass) because we did not have enough power to keep a radar and other stuff running all of the time. When we moved up in the world to a 42 foot cruiser, we did everything in true. We had plenty of power and could run the radar, GPS, computer plotter and everything else without even putting a dent in the available electrical service. Now that I am back to a sailboat (again), I am dealing with the limited electrical service and it took me a bit of time to get used to working in magnetic all of the time.
