For a calculator, definitely a programable would be best. The pre-
programmed calculators are excellent for working the problems at sea.
Unfortunately most of the are passage oriented so they make it hard to
work problems from magazines and Silicon Sea II.
I use, as back-up and on my boat a pair of HP32SII calculators (gifts).
One is programmed for Mercator Sailing DR the other for Sight reduction
using a Dozier formula. I still need the Nautical Almanac and a Nav
log. For Silicon Sea I use a registered version of Navig94.

Well, the original group decision was a target of two weeks between
Legs and the answers posted the following Wednesday. But while we were
in the Mediterranean Sea someone posted an estimate that I would be 154
years old when we reached Boston.
But it's up to the List.

Sigh, unfortunately I think they went commercial. Also last year
roninhouse.com had a disk crash and the navigation archives were lost.
although Ben is trying to recover them.
There are several Navigation program authors on the list maybe they can
    post what they have available?
