Well how exotic one gets depends on the budget. But for DR Mid-Latitude is fine using a calculator that does *scientific* and converts deg/decimal is a big plus. I used Mid-Latitude Sailing until I got an HP32SII calculator, then switched to Mercator Sailing. Having a programable calculator with sufficient memory you can apply free Rumb Line or Mercator Sailing formulas. For sight reduction a "short" table such as in the Nautical Almanac is fine. When I used H.O. 208 in after several reductions I could work a three sight fix in five minutes. There are also several free SR programs available for various calculators. > Thanks, (and thanks for the quick explanation of time zones). > YA Dan Hogan WA6PBY Catalina 27 "GACHA" dhhogan@XXX.XXX Navigation-L List Owner http://www.wa6pby.com
