    I'm certain that NO sextant would get you safely across the living room.  What is wrong with the one shown in the magazine?

    There is a nice non-technical article in the latest (March 2020) issue of Sky & Telescope Magazine: "Captain Cook's Astronomy: The celebrated explorer was also a remarkably proficient and prolific astronomer".
    It unfortunately is marred by an image on page 60 of a so-called sextant. (pdf image below). Sky & Telescope is a leading magazine for amateur astronomers and produces excellent journalism. One can only wonder how,  out of all the available images (including that of Cook's sextant in the British National Maritime Museum, they settled on a ridiculous image of a fake reproduction sextant so inaccurate that one could not even use to navigate across their living room...
