O.K., NASA didn't spend millions to develop THAT space pen, they spent millions to develop a different space pen and then gave up.

See the Wiki blurb on the pen. A guy named Fisher came up with the space pen which everyone going into space now uses. His first sale was 400 units to NASA at $6 per unit in 1965.
