Marcel, thanks a lot for your new year wishes on exactly this evening;-) Let me send you my best wishes too on this very important day. At first, the idea that the magi could have used the Star of Bethlehem for navigation did not make any sense to me. But what is "navigation"? or what _was_ "navigation" in ancient times? I do not know much about this. But I could imagine that the navigation of a ship depended not only on the stars and the weather, but maybe also on omens, oracles, or dreams. The magi asked Herods priests where the Messiah was expected to be born. Is this a form of navigation? When they departed from Bethlehem, they did not return to Herod but were instructed in a dream to take a different road. Is this a kind of navigation? I will try to find out more.
