I recall a speaker at Chicago's Strictly Sail" show. His gripe being that J boats (racing--mostly) come standard with flush through-hull fittings, while $100K to 300K boats do not. Who needs the extra drag? Cost per fitting to move from proud to flush in his estimation--$1 each. Maybe $5-$10 total. His point, until we complain en masse the marine industry won't change. Playing devil's advocate, perhaps the proud fitting is less prone to failure given a flange that prevents it from sliding into the salon and watering down the champagne? Bill
