Henry H., you wrote: "Sorry, I must disagree." Yes, on this aspect of the topic, please do. My information comes mostly from small-boat, yachtsmen navigators. There are different "cultures" of navigation, and I have no doubt that there are tricks and techniques developed by professional merchant navigators that did not filter down to the yachting navigators' culture. I have met or corresponded with many navigators who believe they need to dark-adapt so that they can work all through twilight. And you wrote: "As I have posted before, this method produces the most accurate results as respects position based on the sea horizon." I'm not surprised. If my point wasn't clear, I was suggesting that navigators should AVOID this practice of trying for deep dark-adaptation. You concluded: "As strange as it sounds, I have yet to find this practice clearly spelled out in most standard texts - it's something that is learned at sea." There's a lot that's not in the texts. Henry, I do wish you would post more on some of your navigational experiences. Would it help if I say "please"? ;-) These things that you know from your own experience that are not "spelled out in most standard texts" may be greater in number than you imagine. -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
