tsult, you wrote: "So no real reason to add the vernier, but as a neophyte I thought I needed it." It doesn't hurt. And I'll say this: even though I probably don't need one, I still *prefer* a little vernier on the micrometer. "I thought those Russians didn't know what they were doing..." FWIW, Russian/former Soviet optical instruments have a generally positive reputation, and I think it's well-deserved. "I suppose much like antiques road show... the sextant was worth $10,000 but is now worth only $0.10 ;-)" Heh. Well, don't worry about it too much. Most sextants still price based on their functionality rather their value as collectables. You haven't hurt the functionality and you may have improved it slightly. Also, since new users do ordinarily expect a vernier on the micrometer, you maye even be able to use that as a selling point if you ever decide to ebay it. :-) -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
