Jim - don't know if this a start on a useful lead, but this was a publicly unanswered query on a board this last March: "I am looking for the burial site of Thomas Hubbard Sumner who died in Taunton, MA on 3/9/1876 but is buried in Boston. He was a sea captain, a graduate of Harvard and was born in Boston on 3/20/1807. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks David M. Sumner dmsumner1@msn.com" I assume this is a relative. Somewhere at home I have a little more information on Sumner, his ship, tons, etc. I just purchased "Line of Position Navigation: Sumner and Saint Hilaire the Two Pillars of Modern Celestial Navigation" by Vanvaerenbergh & Ifland but have not even looked at it yet. I assume the work of Sumner's included is the first edition. I know my copy is not the first, I think it is the 2nd ed., if anyone wishes to check any specific differences. Hope this is of some use.
